I just wrote a post on it a few days ago. To me, it is like the science version of SOTW (with activity guide included). Even if we just do the bare bones (read the lessons and do oral review), I feel like I am providing my boys with a systematic study of science. But it is so easy to do a few of the projects (whenever I have the supplies already on hand :)), a worksheet or two, and read a related book or watch a DVD as often as possible. The books are only $20-30 on Amazon (including all the activity instructions and additional resources lists), so they are a very reasonable investment. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in there. ;)Heidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05878817427434603915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8719499255804821889.post-38405804540762597332010-03-28T19:43:54.101-05:002010-03-28T19:43:54.101-05:00Wonderful post! I did not think it would be a good program because it looked to simple. Someone would have to really sell me on something else now! Simple doesn't always mean bad!! Learning as I go!!momtimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14890282963130935598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8719499255804821889.post-11770088174430085042010-03-10T10:44:28.867-06:002010-03-10T10:44:28.867-06:00Looks great! But a local Charlotte Mason school used that program and we gave it a try. It is very easy to teach and covers the basics of both grammar and writing, all in one. You do a chapter on grammar, then a chapter on writing, and so on. It is worksheet-based. But I have found that I don't mind worksheets so much with things that require practice and drill. We study so many subjects through books and hands-on projects (science, history, art, composers, artists, reading, math, etc.) that I still think our learning is not marked by worksheets. Any way, you might like BJU. Love your intentionality and purposefulness. May God bless your efforts!Reneehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12303680733635723712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8719499255804821889.post-40557174029013396822010-03-09T19:25:41.797-06:002010-03-09T19:25:41.797-06:00Thanks for all that you put into this post. I find it interesting how we are getting used to some of these programs as we go and can tell which ones (for the most part) are working and/or will work for further students. Obviously you are gaining experience, teacher momma!
I didn't like the FLL either and was going to wait with our 2nd student (auditory processing delays). But we've just started - taking it slowly and lightly (last time I jsut pushed our oldest through it even though he hated it...sigh). I figure we'll pick something else up in a couple years - probably Shurley.
So glad things are going well for you! Don't worry too much about such things as science cuz you can rest assured that they are learning a ton just from observation right now.
Blessings!
AndreaAndreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10515461667570309152noreply@blogger.com
