Weekly Report - Week 16

Our weeks are so routine at this point that sometimes I feel yet another Weekly Report will bore anyone to death reading my blog. Then I remind myself that these reports are a great way to track our journey, keep us focused and celebrate all we've accomplished.

This week I am going to start with a little bit of what Haddon is doing. We are going to start a little preschool in January - although I have no idea how I will work it into our schedule. This semester we have casually been working on learning to sing the ABC's and recognizing a few letters, counting to 10, reviewing colors and shapes, learning Mother Goose Rhymes, reading lots of board books every day and learning finger rhymes.

Below is our current Mother Goose book we read every day at lunch. I have three different Mother Goose books that we rotate so that we don't get bored. It's so cute to hear him walk around the house singing, "Hey Diddle, Diddle," "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" and "Humpty Dumpty"!

And because our time is so limited I have allowed these videos to teach Haddon his ABC's and how to count. They have done their job well, I might add. He can sing the ABC song, knows most of his letters and many of the sounds just from watching each video one time a week.

Here is Thatcher's Horizons Math Test from this week. He got 89% correct!

Here is his narration from Chapter 16 of SOTW1: The Return of Assyria. The illustration shows Ashurbanipal holding one of the clay tablets from the library he created in Nineveh. Thatch said he was smiling so big because he was happy to have all those books!

And here is Thatcher's copywork from science this week. We studied about flamingos and peacocks. We read from the Kingfisher First Animal Encyclopedia, followed up with more books from the library and completed our animal profile page too.

We have also been enjoying our readings of Aesop's Fables. Each week we focus on one story and read and discuss it each day at lunch. This version is wonderful and I would highly recommend it.

Jennifer.. I know what you mean about your weekly report... it doesnt change to much.... history and lit might... but most everything else is the same...

We have been on our light Dec schedule since Nov! *Ü* just basics and some review of our last unit in TOG....

I had a certain mister take over my weekly reports. I hand daddy a big stack of paper and say, "here ya go!". It helps him see the boys' work and gets him more involved. Otherwise I have a tendency to forget all about dear ol' Dad. :)

Looks like you guys are on a great roll in school - that's some great stuff. I might copy your idea about the videos. I think my boys learned a lot from Sesame - but since we've only allowed weekend TV priveledges, we're missing the 'good stuff' too.

I'll be watching carefully (you and jessica) to get good ideas for preschool in Jan.!

Jennifer,

It may seem the weekly reports get mundane but I promise there are those of us reading each week. I don't frequent many blogs..your's and Jessica's and one about Home is where you start from I think it is called. But that;s about it due to time. And it has been so helpful and encouraging in so many ways. Like today I wrote down the copy of Aesop for Children you pictured. Also I have a 3 year old and we are starting the world of preschool with him so it will be interesting to swap stories. Have a Merry Christmas!

Just want to pop in and say hi... Hope you are having a great week! When do ya'll break? Are you on break?

Gidget had another food incident... sigh... another vet bill! Im telling you, this dog costs more to raise and maintain than my children!

She is mending, but we are still watching her... shes not out of the woods yet, but home.

I love that version of Aesop's Fables! The illustrations are wonderful and we will use it often. I also picked up a copy of "A Children's Treasury of Mythology" at the same time. It is bound and illustrated in the same way and will be great for stirring the imagination when we get to ancient greece and rome. I love finding book like these, since they are the kind that I remember best from my childhood!

Lucas is out of the hospital and doing well! Thanks for visiting my blog and for your prayers!

Jennefer,
I have followed your blog for several months as I am prayerfully interested in classically homeschooling. I was wondering if you got my comment a few entries ago. I have a son that also has sensory integration disorder and I commented about our trials and triumphs. I wanted to make sure that it showed up, as several of my comments have been lost. Maybe you chose not to publish it. Any way, I wanted to let you know that I glean so much from your blog. Your schooling looks so fun and well planned. Thanks for sharing!

I am looking at your reading stuff. My sons read all those books when they were in those grades too. I am remembering the fun we had doing them too.

Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Karen

Not sure how much computer usage your little guys get but there is a cute Baa Baa Black Sheep game on the BBC site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/fun/baabaablacksheep.shtml They have all kinds of games & stories.

Love the picture you have of the boys on the side bar!
